HIGH PLAINS PILATES

Make Your Core Connection

About High Plains Pilates

Instructor: Alison Holloran

Hi, my name is Ali Holloran and I am  the owner of High Plains Pilates. I have been studying and teaching Pilates for 12 years.  I am a fully certified and classically trained Pilates instructor through Peak Pilates.  In addition to being a Pilates instructor, I am a wildlife biologist and am married with 2 children.  Although I have been a runner most of my life, after having my 2 beautiful girls, growing older and surviving breast cancer, I needed an exercise focus that was easier on my joints and gave me the strength and confidence I was looking for…Pilates did that and more. I have become more toned, stronger and more flexible since I started practicing Pilates. These physical changes were expected with hard work; however I did not expect the enhanced feeling of self-worth Pilates has given me.

I became a Pilates instructor because I wanted to share the benefits and feeling of self-worth Pilates gave me. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people obtain not only their personal fitness goals but there emotional goals as well.  Pilates is meant to help everyone, not just elite athletes and I strive to ensure that High Plains Pilates is a welcoming place where everyone, no matter their fitness level or age, feels at home and comes away with a positive experience.  I invite anyone to come to High Plains Pilates for a positive physical and emotional experience. Come and make your core connection.

What is Pilates?

Pilates (pi-LAH-teez) is a form of body conditioning developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century. Pilates is based on the principle that before working the peripheral parts of the body, the core needs to be strong and stable. In fact, stabilization is the first of six Principles of Pilates, which also include control, concentration, flow, breath and precision.

With these principles in mind, Pilates focuses primarily on the 'Core,' or deepest abdominal muscles, and works the rest of the body from this core connection. Through regular sessions, an equal balance between abdominal and lower back musculature will develop, and thus improve strength, stretch, stamina and stability. Over time, this approach creates a strong foundation from which a person can achieve personal physical fitness goals, but most importantly move with ease, be more confident, and just feel better.   At High Plains Pilates, it is my goal to help you create an energized, pain-free, flexible and strong body.

“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old;
if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.”
- Joseph H. Pilates

Testimonials

 One very lucky day back in 2010 I took my first-ever Pilates class with Alison Holloran.   Her sense of humor, enthusiasm and true love for Pilates is contagious and I have been doing Pilates ever since. Alison's ability to observe and analyze your movements and quickly give just the right cue is one of the things that make her a great teacher.  She takes the time to tailor her sessions to address the specific strengths or limitations of each student.   I'd highly recommend her whether you are just starting Pilates or have been practicing for years and are ready to go to the next level. She loves what she does and clearly loves sharing her knowledge with others.  - Maryann Goyn
